Otis will be modernizing vertical-transportation (VT) equipment at two iconic structures in the Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region: the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Otis President, Chair and CEO Judy Marks said in a January earnings call. At the Burj Khalifa, the OEM will modernize 42 elevators and eight escalators, upgrading controllers and drives and incorporating the latest technology into the VT system for client Emaar Properties. The contract also extends Otis’ service agreement for another 10 years. “We take pride in being the original equipment manufacturer and maintenance provider at the world’s tallest building since its opening,” Marks said. At Paris’ Eiffel Tower, Otis will undertake a multiyear modernization of the tower’s dual lifts. Marks observed that Otis elevators have carried visitors to the top of the Eiffel Tower for nearly 130 years.
